International Conference of Mathematical Sciences, ICMS, 2009 was held between 4 August 2009 and 10 August 2009 at Marma Congress Centre, Marmara Eğitim Köyü, Maltepe, İstanbul, Turkey.
There were more than 250 speakers from all over the world and 150 accompanying people. Maltepe University accomadated almost all of them at Marma Congress Centre Hotel and some of them at Dormitory at Marmara Egitim Koyu campus of Maltepe University. Whoever we talk to expressed that the conference was very succesfull and organization was very well.
After the keynote talks every day during the conference, 297 talks presented by academic members of universities from all over the world,(We can mention USA, Canada, Argentina, England, Germany, France, Spain, Sirbia, Macedonia, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Morocco, Algereia, South Africa, Egypt, Libya, Iran, South Korea, India, Azerbaijan, Irak, Brunia, Hong Kong, Poland, Turkey, etc) delivered their talks in 15 parallel sessions with every talk having 20 minutes.
On the first day, participants completed their registrations. On 5th August, 2009, the conference was opened by an opening ceremmony.
After the opening talks, Prof M. Y. Hussaini presented his keynote talk entitled
“Uncertainty Qualification in Simulations”.
M. Y. Hussaini is Professor of Mathematics, holder of the TMC Eminent Scholar Chair in High Performance Computing, Affiliate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Computer Science in Florida State University. Before coming to Florida State University in 1996, he was the Director of the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (ICASE) at the NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA. He received his Ph.D. in engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1970, and his B.S. and M.S. degrees in mathematics and physics from the University of Madras, India. He has published over 250 articles, co-authored three books and edited or co-edited 20 volumes. He is editor-in-chief of Theoretical and Computational Fluid Dynamics, editor of Applied Numerical Mathematics, and of Computing in Science and Engineering. He is also an editor of the Springer-Verlag Series on Scientific Computation and the Oxford Engineering Science Series. He is the associate editor of the WIT Press series on Advances in Fluid Mechanics.He is a fellow of the American Physical Society, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Institute of Physics, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
After the first keynote talk, Prof. Dr. Jane M. Horgan presented second keynote talk of the conference entitled
“Simulating Probability with R: Computer Applications”
(with the assistance of Sebnem Er from İstanbul University).
Jane Horgan is a Professor in Statistics at Dublin City University. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Statisticians, and a member of the Association of Statistics of Ireland. She has also lectured at the Autonomous University of Mexico, University of Dar-es-Salaam, Dublin Institute of Technology, University College Cork and the London School of Economics. She graduated from University College Cork with a double First Class Honours B.A in mathematics and statistics, and went on to the London School of Economics to specialise in statistics, where she obtained an MSc. She completed a PhD at London City University. She is involved in research both singly and in collaboration in the areas of statistical sampling and estimation. In 1997, her research in sampling strategies for financial auditing has won an international research award Anbar's Citation of Excellence, for `outstanding contribution to the literature and body of knowledge', with invitations to speak at international conferences and universities. She has published over a hundred pieces of work in international refereed journals, professional journals, conference proceedings, and commissioned reports. Her work can be found in a wide range of refereed journals, including Survey Methodology, the International Statistical Review, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics of the American Statistical Association, Indian Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics, IEEE Transactions, South African Journal of Computing, Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, J. de Contaduria y Administracion, The Irish Accounting Review, Accounting and Business Research. She has obtained funding from Enterprise Ireland to engage in International Collaboration, and to supervise research students (IRCSET).
On the 6 August 2009, Prof. Dr. Alaeddin Malek presented a keynote talk entitled
“Optimization with Recurrent Neural Networks: Recent Advances and New Perspectives”
Alaeddin Malek is Professor and Head of Applied Mathematics Department, Tarbiat Modares University, Tehran,Iran. Prof. Malek received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in applied mathematics ,
from McGill University, Canada, and University of Wales (Aberystwyth), UK, in the years 1986 and 1991, respectively. His current research interests include solutions of real-life problems, oil indus-
try problems, neural networks, optimization, dynamical systems, heat distribution for nano and micro scale particles, thin lms and numerical solutions for partial differential equations (Finite difference and Spectral methods). He is the co-author in the 21 books published by MOASESEH FARHANGI AHLE GHALAM written in the Persian language. Besides more than 100 presentations covering many areas
of applied mathematics, he has published more than 30 papers in the international journals. Recently he contributed one chapter (Applications of Recurrent Neural Networks to Optimization Problems) in the book recurrent neural networks, first published in September 2008 by I-Tech Education and Publishing KG, Vienna, Austria. He teaches two postgraduate courses in applied mathematics every semester. The courses are Advanced OR, Optimization, Numerical solutions for PDEs and Fourier analysis. He graduated more than 50 M.Sc. and two Ph.D. students. He is the supervisor of three M.Sc. and four Ph.D. students at present time.
Prof. Dr. Robin Harte presented his talk entitled
“Where algebra and topology meet: a cautionary tale”
Robin Harte is Professor in School of Mathematics Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. He was born in Belfast in May 1938 - there are streets in Mexico named after his birthday.His work in multiple spectral theory starts with the proof, in 1972, of the spectral mapping theorem for the left and the right spectrum of commuting systems of Banach algebra elements. Apart from writing Mathematics, He has a weakness for short stories and bad poetry, and a late conversion to Karaoke singing.
Prof. Dr. Eberhard Malkowsky delivered a keynote talk entitled
“Compact and Fredholm Operators on Some Matrix Domains of Triangles”.
Eberhard Malkowsky is Professor at Department of Mathematics, University of Giessen,
Germany. He has a lot of published papers and books. His main research area is summabilty theory and its applications.

All speakers gave thier presentations well. Specifically, in the Session of Industrial Mathematics and Statisticsthe speakers gave excellent presentations in the recent developments of Mathematics and Statistics with potential applications to industrials; the talks in the session Design Theory were interesting and stimulating; the session Topology and Abstract Analysis really provided an opportunity for experts from various areas of Mathematical Analysis and Topology to meet and discussion the most recent advances in their research fields in the special session of Topology and Abstract Analysis
There were very prominent mathematicians in attendance we can mention Professor Dragomir Djokovic, for example from 5th session, a distinguished emeritus Professor from the University of Waterloo and a distinguished authority in Lie Algebra with close to 300 research papers and the talks were interesting.
